Part 176- Setbacks

During the summer of 2019, I went to my very first and- to this day- my last orchestra camp. I have not gone to one again in the past 3-4 years, and most likely will not ever again. That summer camp left me with a bitter resentment towards myself and my instrument that I was determined to change.

I’ve been playing the violin for almost 9 years now; so since I was 5 years old. The violin has always been the sole instrument I loved and wanted to play. Today, I’m not sure what exactly drew me to this particular instrument, but I can say that it was something I was dead set on. I still remember my first lesson and the amount of joy I had when playing it. As soon as I got home I started practicing. Despite only knowing how to play open-string rhythms I felt excited. It was my instrument. My violin, and I was playing it. Over the course of my lessons I started to play notes. Basic rhythms and melodies from my beginner’s book. I eventually had my very first recital. My piece was the classic, “Twinkle Twinkle”. I think I was last to perform and I remember how nervous I was. I remember holding a paper with the names of students performing unfamiliar pieces and listening to the faint sound of music. Eventually it was my turn. Just as it started, it was over. It was, really, a wonderful moment in my life. I don’t remember my performance details, but I remember feeling proud and accomplished that day. I continued to improve as a musician and I grew with my instrument. I remember each time I got a bigger instrument and how I preferred certain cases over others. I remember my practice sessions and how my teacher would convince me to practice with musical bingo. This continued until our move in 2016.
Texas was different than the Ohio I had grown up in. Over the course of getting settled, we also had started looking for a violin teacher for me. I’ve had at least 10 different violin teachers from the time I first started up to now. More than half of those come from 2016-2019. Each teacher had a different way of teaching and a different reason we couldn’t continue with them. One was too far away, another was constantly late. One of them left and a different teacher took their place. A different teacher left a year or so after I joined and was then replaced twice. The second time was the last teacher I had before I started middle school. Over these years I grew distant from my instrument. I lost all joy in playing it. It became more of a burden when I had violin lessons than an opportunity to learn. I never practiced or even touched my instrument anytime other than during lessons. I never learned during that period. I remember that before I moved I had just started learning how to use my 4th finger on the instrument. After the move, not a single teacher ever taught me how to use it. I couldn’t even tune my own instrument. No one had ever taught me how to. I always gave it to my teacher and waited until they were finished. Now, not all my teachers were bad. Some of them actually taught me things to improve my musical abilities. But due to the constant switching I never was able to continue those things. 5 years into playing my violin, I still had the skills of a beginner. Maybe even worse than I did when I first started. I never realized it or even felt the need to do anything about it. That all changed during the summer of 2019.
A very good friend of mine has been playing the violin since she was maybe 7 or 8 years old. Not as long as I have, but much, much better than I am. Even though I’ve heard her play for over 4 years, she never fails to amaze me with her skills. She’s an excellent musician and is remarkable. When we first became friends we found out we have a common interest: playing the violin. She invited me for this string camp over the summer to which I was really excited for. There were a few problems though. One, I had a brand new instrument. I had gotten a bigger violin a few weeks prior to the camp and I did not know how to play it. I was still playing with tapes and could not even accurately play a note without them. I was grateful that my friend’s teacher offered to put them on for me when I brought her some tape. Even still, I couldn’t play. Two, the music was difficult. Looking over the string music makes me laugh. The pieces are quite easy and very simple to play. Back then the music frightened me. I couldn’t play or even understand the basic melody at all. It took time for me to even process where we were or what was happening each time we rehearsed. I had to fake every second of it. The camp was a week long- Monday to Friday- and we had a performance Friday afternoon. For 5 whole days, my life was like hell. Each day I went was a feeling of dread. I constantly asked my parents to let me skip or to quit.
The key memory I have from this was when we had individual sectionals. Each day, after rehearsal all together, we would practice with our individual section. It was the day before our performance. We had a chair test. Everyone had to play a few measures from the given piece, and they would determine which seat you had. Before it started I had told our teacher that I was new and might play at a slow speed. She assured me it was fine and to do my best. So there I sat, maybe 4th to play, anxiously waiting for my turn. My heart was pounding rapidly and my palms were becoming sweatier by the second. It was finally my turn to play. I had heard the previous kids play and I was terrified. I was shaking as I held up my instrument and tried to play. I looked at the page and placed my fingers down. I played one note and that’s it. I couldn’t comprehend where to place my fingers after that or what the next note was. I didn’t know how to play at all. That moment was the most humiliating moment of my life. I could feel all eyes on me as I struggled. I was too overwhelmed and burst into tears. The teacher just silently patted me on the back and told me to go get my performance shirt. I can only imagine what they all through as I walked out. Perhaps ridicule or maybe pity. I don’t even know how I managed to go back there with everyone else after what happened. I was placed last for my section. It gave me the benefit of being hidden so no one knew if I was faking or not, but also showed how poorly I must have done to get that chair. The day during the performance was really the only time I could lighten up. I felt happier solely because it was almost over. We were the second group to play, so while the first was warming up the rest of us were in the audience chatting. I sat with my friend and her other friend. Like my friend, the other girl was remarkable at playing. A piece of advice she gave me when taking was, “Don’t be lazy like me when practicing.” At that time I could only feel frustration and annoyance. Looking back, I can assume she may have only meant well and was being nice. But given the circumstances, I thought she was ridiculing me for my poor performance and was comparing it to herself.
After that performance I only hoped to not go to another string camp again. I never did, but I faced the reality of being in a school orchestra. I started middle school in Concert Orchestra, Second violin, last chair. It was a relatively small orchestra but it was still disappointing. Compared to the Symphonic Orchestra my friend, and a violist in our grade we knew, was in, or the Chamber Orchestra with breathtaking students, Concert was a sad sight. I dreaded 7th period Orchestra every day until I faced the reality: I had to improve. The benefit of a school orchestra is the option of private lessons. They had different PL teachers you could learn from and that was like a dream. The teacher I started with- in middle school- was strict but also wonderful. Immediately on my first day she helped me improve in so many ways. She helped me relax when playing, produce a better sound, tone, and actually play. I remember going home that night and showing my parents what I learned. They were impressed, and more than that, I was overjoyed with this new revelation. The once put out fire I had for learning my instrument started to rekindle again. From that day, I started practicing everyday. I dedicated at least 30 minutes each day to my instrument. As soon as I got home, I would unease and start playing. Over the course of that year, so many things happened. One, I actually learned how to turn my instrument. The one thing I had never been suggested was a tuner. I got my first tuner and learned how to tune my instrument by myself. My days of anxiously asking an adult to tune it for me were over. Two, I moved up. In less than 4 months I moved up from second violin last chair, to first violin second chair. I remained as a first violin from that point and continued to grow. Three, I got my final PL teacher. The teacher I currently learn with has been teaching me for almost 4 years now, and I could not be more grateful for her. She has helped me learn and improve in so many more ways in these 4 years than I ever could have in the past. My goal from that year was to make it into Chamber Orchestra. The Orchestra I could only dream about. I finally did that next year, and was still in it the year after that. I went through a few auditions in that period. I auditioned for Region last year and made it. I auditioned for FWYO Philharmonic Orchestra, twice, and even though I haven’t gotten in yet, I still feel determined to try again. I auditioned and got into Camerata  Orchestra in my high school Orchestra. (The highest a freshman can audition for) The progress I made form that state to now is something I’m proud of. Even though, today, I may not be the best in my Orchestra, I’m still improving. From the beginning of the school year to now I’ve improved and still am. This is what matters most to me.
We’re currently playing Carmen by Georges Bizet. When we first got this piece I could only gulp nervously and play softly. But now I can play this piece. I can play in the “stratosphere”- as my director likes to call it- and I can play the main themes well. For the other students it may not seem like a big deal to play Carmen, but for me, the fact I can play a piece of this difficulty and play it with my peers at a crazy fast performance speed makes me proud. Considering where I started 3 years from now, I can only feel determined to work harder to improve more. My next goal is to get into high school region, and to make it into our high school Chamber Orchestra. When they first played during our Fall Concert, I decided I wanted to be part of that orchestra. It was middle school all over again. They were truly breath-taking, and I want to be part of that one day. I also want to perform music as complex, beautiful, and wonderful as they did, and play to amaze a crowd like I was that day. I may not be the best right now, but given the previous results, a little determination- and practice- can go a long way.
Not just for violin, but for any other setback I’ve had in my life. I’ve realized that determination and hard work is what it takes to reach the top. No matter what, that’s the key.

Part 155- My failed attempt to convince my dad…

During a three day weekend, what is the one thing you want to do? Rest, and not do any work. And that is exactly what I wanted to do. Since it’s the end of the first semester, and a three day weekend, it was the perfect opportunity to not do much and just relax. And maybe even get out of writing a blog this week.

Methods to have your parents agree with you ( and let you take a break from writing a post this week):

  • Homework excuse
This is the first one that came to my mind. As much as this excuse may possibly work, it really just makes things worse. All I’m doing is giving myself more work and another thing I don’t want to do. Plus, parents will then be making sure you are doing your work, and then you will absolutely HAVE to do it. So, no.

  • Trading/Negotiation

Similar to the first one, but different. Instead of saying you have homework, try a negotiation. “If you let me not do any work for this break, I’ll work extra hard for the next semester. This break will let me clear my mind and loosen up. That way I can focus and work harder when school starts again.” Or, “If you buy me a new iPad, I’ll take digital notes which will be more organized. That way I can study better and do really well on tests.”

  • Tired/Resting or Pitying

“It’s a three-day-weekend, the end of the first semester, and I’m exhausted after all those tests. Can I please have a pass this week and not have to write a post? ” The resting excuse seems the least likely to be accepted, but it can work. If not, then try getting on their soft side. Exaggerate a little, not too much, in order to emphasize the importance of getting out of the work. Also, don’t lie. Don’t make up things that never happened to back your claims. That will only make it more unlikely to get your way. Use things that have happened, but add onto them. “Resting is really necessary for me this three day weekend. As soon as school starts, I’ll have even more work and I’ll get really stressed again. I won’t be able to sleep as much with all the assignments, and that extra day off will help me catch up on that missing sleep. Please??” Okay, maybe that’s a little too…cheesy, but you get the point. Highlight the key points where parents get soft on: seeing you work so hard, staying up really late, pushing yourself, etc. ( This is actually an excuse I’ve never used before. I’ve always thought of it, but I’ve never done it- not that I know of at least. )

  • Comparing

Compare it with something bigger to make it seem like something that can easily be said yes to. Compare with something of higher value, and then with what you want. Casually bring it into conversation, and then after some time ask them about what you want. They’ll be forced to compare it to the item with a greater amount, and are more likely to say yes.

  • Making the effort

This excuse needs some extra time put in. For me, when I want something my parents will usually decide based on my behavior or how well I’ve been doing in school. Based on this, I know that if I want something, I should put in a little extra effort so that when the time to ask them comes, their judgement will be slightly more lenient towards the answer I want. This one and the previous excuse may not go with getting out of doing something, but they could work if you want something. This could also work with the resting excuse. You could bring up those moments where you really pushed yourself to achieve something really good and how this break is a reward and boost for you.

  • Being honest

No matter what way you convince your parents, be honest. Or even just deadpan it without even trying to convince them. One, it’s safer. Instead of trying to butter them up, tell them what you want. Of course, not when they’re in a bad mood or at the wrong time. Time it right, and ask them. If you butter them up, they’ll immediately know something is up and you want something. Add some sugar, but not too much. Two, it shows how much you want it. Tell them clearly what you want and why you want it. With a solid reason of course. You can even give several options/negotiations as well. This way makes it easier for your parents and yourself to know what you want. Also, don’t get upset if they say no. Accept it, and know that it was worth it to try. If you didn’t, you wouldn’t have known what their final answer would have been. Who knows. Maybe by seeing how accepting you are towards their answer, it could change their mind.

“ Is it okay if I just skip writing this week’s post? I know that it’s a weekly thing, but I really just don’t feel like writing one this week. I was hoping, since it’s the long weekend, I could just relax and not do anything until school starts again.”

Also, note that if there’s a negotiation, keep the promise. It’ll show that you really do care about what you receive, and next time you want something, they’ll most likely be likely to say yes. MAYBE.
I also want to put this out. Parents do want kids to want things. They want to make you feel that you appreciate and deserve what you get, and will look for opportunities to make your life better. The only part you need to do is ask. Ask the right way, and you will be rewarded.

Ha. Well this is awkward. I got tricked into writing a post this week. As you can tell, I ended up being unsuccessful with my reasons. Not only did I have to write a blog, but I also had to write one on how my fate ended up being this way. That’s okay though. At least I was able to come up with 5 other ways to hopefully convince my dad next time.

147- Between Worlds

You may be wondering why I’ve chosen to write a story instead of a research-blog this time. Well, I wanted to try something new out. I’ve always loved to write my own stories, and I’ve always wanted to share them with other people. So, I thought it would be fin to try and publishing one on my blog. I also wanted to try a different style when writing and see what you think. This  is my first time writing a short story and having a completed story, so it may not be on of my best works. But, I do want to know what you think! Presenting: Between Worlds.

Between Worlds

A shot straight to the head. That’s all you need to finish a job. Adonis lowered the gun before turning away from the body. He tossed the weapon at one of his men before wiping away the splattered blood with a towel.

“You know what to do…” He growled, giving a sharp glance at the others before walking away. Being the most feared criminal under lord in the world, it was common to have enemies, no matter how low they were. A few petty criminals were child’s play for Adonis. After leaving the scene, Adonis boarded the car waiting for him and closed his eyes. The silence in the car was frightening as a man with a dark, king-like presence sat in the back.

“Sir,” The driver called out. Adonis glanced at the driver before closing his eyes again. The driver continued after receiving the okay.

“Housekeeper Adler called earlier and wanted to remind you of the gala that was tonight.” Adonis hummed in approval.

“He also wanted to remind you to dress sharply. Perhaps for the ladies?” The driver suggested, glancing into the rear-view mirror. Adonis glared at the driver.

“Do you have a death wish?” The driver chuckled and turned back to the road. The hushed sound of rain followed as silence once again fell. Shortly after, the driver slowed to a stop.

“Identification?” A gruff voice asked. The driver rolled up his sleeve and showed the emblem crest burnt into his flesh. A mark of Adonis. Anyone who was involved with him in any way had the mark on themselves. Close members had it in the flesh while minor associates simply wore a hidden accessory. The security guard acknowledged the mark after comparing it to his own, and let the driver go. The towering gate ahead creaked open and welcomed them. The car drove forward to the house beyond.

Even in the gloomy weather, the house ahead shone brightly and showed signs of warmth. The driver drove to the smaller building in front of the house and stopped. The door next to Adonis opened and a man in his late 40’s held an umbrella out for him. Adonis got out of the car and the driver drove off.

“Old man, you will break your arms if you try to cover me with the umbrella.” Adonis said, taking the umbrella out of the housekeeper’s hands. The housekeeper looked helpless as Adonis ended up covering him instead. The two walked to the second level of the building and to the wide entrance in the middle. Adonis closed the umbrella once the two stepped inside, and slung it over his shoulder.  After a lengthy walk through the tunnel, the two took the lift that emerged to the surface and stepped inside the mansion.

“Adonis, the maids have already prepared a suit for you. The driver will come back in another two hours.” Housekeeper Adler instructed. Adonis nodded and made his way upstairs to his room. About an hour later he came back down in a dark grey suit, looking extremely noble.

“How do I look?” Adonis asked Housekeeper Adler. The housekeeper smiled, his light grey mustache lifting upwards.

“ Excellent as always. Apart from that, there are some things you have to know about the gala.’ Housekeeper Adler led Adonis to the study and typed something into the computer. The computer then projected a profile on the huge TV screen in front of them.

“ This is Maddlestrom, the host for tonight. Rich, powerful, handsome, name it all. However, he is not the focus.” Housekeeper Adler paused and pulled up the gala details. “ There will be an auction tonight. I’m not sure what it will be on, but according to our resources, something important will be in number 305. ” The housekeeper looked at Adonis. Adonis nodded.

“Got it.”

“Well then, have fun tonight. I hope you know your limits.” Housekeeper Adler reminded him. Adonis shook his head helplessly before heading out the mansion. He boarded the waiting Rolls Royce, and they drove off. About twenty minutes later the car stopped in front of a grand hotel. Rolled out on the floor was a long, red carpet and cameras were being feverishly clicked. An assistant opened the door, and Adonis stepped out. He straightened his suit and walked down the carpet, ignoring the cameras. As soon as Adonis stepped into the hotel, he could tell the atmosphere was dangerous. Of course, with over 30 different underlords attending, one would have to be on their toes. Adonis, however, remained at ease and casually strolled through the crowds. Short pleasantries were exchanged between the guests. Adonis acknowledged a few of them before finding his seat near the VIP area. He preferred to stick to himself and only chose to mingle when necessary. Adonis observed the room, noting the guests’ expressions, actions, and small details.

“Ah, Adonis, thank you for attending my gala,” A voice came. Adonis turned around and stood up.

“Thank you instead for inviting me.” Adonis replied, taking the champagne glass held out to him from the man.

“ Well, I could only try. It’s more of my honor to host you tonight.” The man replied humbly. Adonis smiled.

‘Well then, shall we have a drink to that, Maddlestrom? Here’s to your gala.” The two clinked glasses before taking a sip. Maddlestrom exchanged goodbyes with Adonis before venturing to the next guest. Adonis sat back down, and continued observing the guests. He swirled the drink thoughtfully before chugging it down in one go, and taking another. Despite having a high alcohol tolerance, Adonis rarely drank. But, since this was a special occasion, he didn’t mind being a bit reckless. Soon, everyone settled down and the night began. The atmosphere became lively as people ate and drank with one another. Excited chatter resounded through the room. Adonis remained quiet the whole time, eating peacefully. Soon dinner had also ended.

“Ladies and gentlemen, if you could please make your way to the first floor, to the right will be an auditorium. Our auction will begin shortly there in just a few minutes.” Maddlestrom announced. Everyone excitedly got up and made their way upstairs. Adonis found his seat, and picked up the guide and bid paddle. He scanned through the guide before his eyes caught a particular one. 305. Adonis chuckled to himself. Housekeeper Adler was right, this bid was going to be important. All the guests slowly began to fill the auditorium.

“Welcome ladies and gentlemen. The auction will now begin.  As you know, this time’s auction is from the recent underwater find. It consists of ancient treasure rumored to be from multiple kingdoms in the past. We will start with number 273.” An assistant brought out an antique chest filled with gems and rusted swords. “ Starting with 5 million, anyone for 5 million?” The bids began one by one and the auction items moved down one by one. By now Adonis was already bored to his wits.

“Number 305,” The auctioneer announced. Adonis sat up in realization and watched as two assistants brought out a glass chest. In the chest, settled securely between the velvet were 5 gold rings, each fitted with a different polished jewel. Even after being abandoned underwater for thousands of years, they still looked dazzling.

“ These beautiful jewel encrusted 5-set rings will start at 25 million.” Adonis remained quiet. It wasn’t just the time to bid. Soon the others started to bid. 30 million, 45, 60…

“ 65 million!” The Auctioneer announced. By then only one person was willing to bid that high. Adonis quickly snatched the opportunity and raised his paddle.

“80 million.”He announced. The other bidder stayed quiet, unable to bid higher.

“Going once, going twice, SOLD!” The auctioneer announced. Adonis let out a satisfied grin before relaxing once again.Compared to the start, after the bid on 305 the event started to speed up. Items were being sold as soon as they came out. Adonis paid no attention to them and started to space out.

“Thank you, ladies and gentlemen for attending the auction tonight. Have a lovely night, everyone.” The auctioneer said. Adonis snapped back to reality and immediately stood up. Before he left, Maddlestrom quickly approached him.

“Ah, Adonis, before you go would you mind participating in a special raffle?” Adonis raised his eyebrow. Maddlestrom started to panic and reject the idea seeing the expression. However, a simple reply stopped him.

“Why not?” Adonis had a slight, goofy grin on his face and followed Maddlestrom to a group of people.

“All right, now that we are all here, please write down your name on one ticket, as well as an address.”

“Why an address?” A tall, proud woman asked. Maddlestrom chuckled.

“It’s a simple gift, I assure you.” He replied. The guests nodded and each filled out the ticket as instructed. One by one they all submitted it to Maddlestrom before taking their leave. Adonis was the last to submit his, but was stopped by Maddlestrom before leaving.

“I really do appreciate you coming, Adonis.” The man said. Adonis looked at him  and nodded before leaving. His Rolls Royce soon pulled up to him, and Adonis boarded.

“Busy night?” The driver asked. Adonis chuckled.

“Not really. It was mainly a flashy event to show off Maddlestrom’s apparent humbleness and generosity.” The driver also chuckled.

“Did you drink much?” The driver couldn’t help but ask, seeing Adonis’ lively tone.

“A bit. Not that much to get too tipsy though.” Adonis replied, looking out at the pitch black sky. The driver nodded and the rest of the ride was in silence.

“Here, sir.” The driver said, pulling up in front of the mansion. Adonis nodded and wished the driver a good night before making his way to the mansion.

“Good evening, Housekeeper Adler,” Adonis greeted. The housekeeper momentarily froze before smiling.

“ Good evening, Adonis. The heirlooms are being polished and will be ready for you to see tomorrow morning. You should go to bed. It’s already late.” Adonis nodded before heading upstairs. Adonis shut the bedroom door, and immediately collapsed on the bed. After waiting for some time, Adonis got up and prepared to sleep. As soon as he turned off the light and was under the covers, sleep hit.

Adonis woke up the next day drowsily. After a quick shower and breakfast, Adonis made his way underground to his private study. Even though he had his own office and a company building to work at, he preferred being here. Here, the true work was done. It was here that all the missions and deals were planned, and here where Adonis controlled the entire underworld. Adonis stayed in that room the whole day, continuously meeting with other underlords, his own men, and even government officials. The hours passed by slowly , and Adonis eventually returned upstairs. One hand rubbed his temples as Adonis walked up to his room.

“Adonis, where are you going?” Housekeeper Adler stopped him. Adonis looked at the housekeeper tiredly.

“To sleep.” Adonis said hoarsely.

“What about the child?” Housekeeper Adler asked. Adonis’ ears perked up. Suddenly it felt like sleep had never come to him.

“What child?” Adonis questioned.

“ The child that is currently roaming around in the living room.” The housekeeper deadpanned. Adonis’ eyebrows huddled together as he walked back down the stairs. Housekeeper Adler led him to the living room.

“This child.” Housekeeper Adler said. In the living room was a small girl, no older than 3 or 4, looking around innocently at the two men. Adonis’ eyebrows lifted up in surprise before the quickly pulled Housekeeper Adler to the side.

“When did a child enter the premises?” Adonis asked through gritted teeth.

“ I also am not sure. One of the maids said she came as a gift. Something about a raffle.” Adonis realized what happened. Soon, his face began to turn red from anger.

“Get Maddlestrom on the phone, now!” Adonis roared, storming into the open study room. Housekeeper Adler quickly searched through the contacts as Adonis paced back and forth. After a few rings, Maddlestrom picked up the call.

“Hello?” A voice answered.

“ Maddlestrom , you better explain as to how a child is currently in my house at this very minute!” Adonis shouted through the phone. The other line was silent before Maddlestrom replied.

“Ah, Adonis… Erm, that would be from the raffle.” Maddlestrom said timidly.

“Oh, like I didn’t figure that out! I asked what a child was doing in my home! I hope you didn’t kidnap her or something and wanted to put the blame on me. Well that wouldn’t be a lovely ending for you would it?!” Adonis asked, voice dripping in malice.

“N-No! S-Sir, I promise, n-nothing l-like that ever happened. T-The raffle was meant t-to be a surprise a-adoption. A-An orphanage I-I collaborated with s-suggested the adoption as a gift.” Maddlestrom said shakily. Adonis closed his eyes and took a deep breath.

“ I see.” Maddlestrom thought there was some hope after hearing Adonis’ reply.

“S-So,”

“Did I let you speak?” Adonis asked. Maddlestrom fell silent. Adonis took another deep breath before continuing. “ Is there any way I can give her back?” Maddlestrom paused before speaking.

“N-No. I’m sorry, but the orphanage will not take her back.” Adonis remained silent before hanging up. Housekeeper Adler hesitantly spoke up.

“What do we do with the child?” Adonis let out a laugh. Soon the laugh became a chuckle, and then a roar of laughter as he fell backwards.

“Oh, what a joke! Me, the biggest criminal underworld has adopted a child. What more, he accidentally did so after stupidly agreeing to take part in a lousy raffle by some lousy host! HA!” Housekeeper Adler fell silent once again. Soon the laughter died down and Adonis regained his composure.

“Do whatever you want with her. Give her a place to stay or not, as long as she stays out of my way and sight, it’ll be fine.” Adonis said harshly, storming out of the room. As soon as he left the study, he saw the girl looking up to him innocently, clutching a ragged stuffed bunny. Adonis glared at her.

“Move, kid.” The girl quickly moved to the side as Adonis continued walking without a reply from her. Adonis made his way upstairs, not sparing another glance towards the girl. Not even the sorrowful look in her eyes made him think twice about his actions. To him, she would be nothing more than an unwanted liability who would only get in his way.

Weeks and months passed by, but Adonis never changed his cold behavior to the girl. Occasionally, they would cross paths. But it wouldn’t last for too long until Adonis glared at the housekeeper who quickly whisked her away. He often caught a  glimpse of the heartbroken look in her eyes, but brushed it off. After all, she had no meaning in his life whatsoever.

However, the girl, Viola,  thought differently. Everyday, whenever Adonis came upstairs, she would try to please him. A small drawing or a flower she found in the garden. Everyday she tried to get some love from the man she wanted to call father. But everyday, he would simply ignore her and leave her to be taken away by the maids.

Until one day….

It was late at night, and Viola woke up by the sudden roar of thunder. She became frightened by the sound, and huddled up in the blankets further, trying to shut out the sound. The sudden downpour of rain made her wake up once again. Viola sat up and wrapped herself in the blanket, shivering. Her eyes widened when she heard a sound outside. Viola hurriedly left the bed and made her way downstairs. She quickly hid behind a couch in fear as footsteps were heard. Viola’s eyes filled with tears as she tried to look for one of the maids. Viola’s head snapped towards the door as it eerily creeped open. A whimper left her mouth as she stared at the door. She gasped as a figure entered the house, soaked in rain. It wasn’t until a sudden flash of lightning went by, that she realized it was Adonis. Relieved, Viola ran over to him and desperately clung to his leg.

“Daddy!” She wailed, sobbing loudly. Adonis on the other hand was startled by the sudden contact. His mood had already been ruined by the rain and a few mishaps at work, and the addition of Viola clinging onto him made him even more upset.

“Housekeeper Adler!!” He roared. Viola suddenly jumped back in fear. Housekeeper Adler and a few other maids quickly rushed into the room and the lights turned on.

“I thought I told you to keep her away from me! Is that so hard?! She’s just a useless child!” Adonis yelled. Viola started to quiver in fear again and began to sob even louder.

“Get her out of my sight!” He growled, shooing her away. The maids quickly picked her up and tried to calm her down but Viola continued to cry.

“No! Da-Daddy!” She continued to shout, grasping for Adonis. Adonis didn’t even look at her and went in the opposite direction. Adonis slammed the door shut and threw his coat on the floor. He began to thrash around, messing up the room. The day’s events began to come to him and he started to tear apart the room even more. A good 20 minutes went by and Adonis finally calmed down. Breathing heavily, Adonis grasped onto the sides of his sink. His chest heaved in anger, before it eventually returned to normal. It somehow angered him how the child suddenly ran and clung to him. But, what surprised him was how he felt when he called her daddy. For some reason, his heart ached when he saw her pitiful state. At that time there was a small urge to console her. But he stubbornly pushed it away, believing it was only his mind playing tricks on him. She was practically an outsider! Adonis closed his eyes and tried to clear his mind.

“I should just forget about it,” He mumbled to himself. Adonis looked at himself in the mirror one last time before turning off the lights.

Days passed by that incident. Adonis tried his best to forget it, but he couldn’t help but remember how harsh he was. No matter how hard he tried to deny it, he felt his heart soften for her. Not only that, Adonis found himself thinking or even looking for her more often. When working, his mind would wonder what made her call him daddy. Or even when he returned from the office or came upstairs from the study, he tried to look for her. But he had no luck. Adonis sighed and knew he was the only one to blame. After all, it was him who screamed for her to be out of his sight.

Adonis’ mind was in chaos. He was currently in his office and was trying to plan a mission. But his mind wouldn’t let him. He couldn’t focus on anything, and it felt kike his mind forgot everything he knew. Frustrated, Adonis left the office early and left for home. Along the way, he noticed a stuffed bunny in the window of a nearby shop. The stuffed animal reminded him of the ragged one he had always seen Viola carry around. Adonis told the driver to stop, and before he knew it, he had returned with the bunny in his hands.

After entering the mansion, Adonis roamed around the house in search of Viola. It didn’t take that long to find her drawing happily in the kitchen. She was so focused on her drawing she didn’t even notice Adonis sitting next to her.

“That’s a lovely drawing,” He said. Viola stopped and looked at him wide eyed. She unknowingly began to tremble. Adonis panicked, seeing her terrified state.

“Hey, hey. It’s all right. Shhh, calm down. I won’t hurt you.” He slowly calmed her down until she stopped trembling. The two stared at each other for a while. Adonis finally broke the silence by handing her the bunny.

“I-I got this for you,” He said. Viola hesitantly reached for the bunny. After it was in her grasp, she began to admire it. Seeing her cute behavior, Adonis couldn’t help but smile to himself. Viola then turned to look at him.

“Oh, I…I wanted to apologize for that night.” Viola looked at him curiously.

“I-I didn’t mean to yell at you. I’m sorry. I was stressed, and I shouldn’t have taken it on you of all people.” Adonis explained anxiously. Viola continued to look at him, listening silently.

“Can you forgive me?” Adonis asked hopefully. As soon as those words left his mouth, Adonis felt different. Here he was, the most powerful man in the country, pleading for forgiveness from a small child. Viola looked down at the bunny in her hands and then at Adonis. She slowly nodded her head. Adonis smiled in relief. Viola resumed drawing again and Adonis continued to watch her.

“What are you drawing?” Adonis asked, trying to start another conversation. Viola glanced at him and then at her drawing.

“ A flower,” She answered.

“Ohh, can I see?” Adonis asked, leaning forward. Viola showed him and he grinned at the messily drawn flower. “It’s very pretty.” Viola nodded and smiled. The two soon began to talk more. Even if it was through one-sentence answers or brief nods, they communicated well together. Viola started to open up more around him, now that Adonis let her. The two were fully immersed in their own world that they didn’t notice the fond looks the maids and housekeeper had when they saw them. Seeing the two different personalities open up to each other melted one’s heart instantly.

This went on for a while. Everyday Adonis would come home in search of Viola and she would eagerly be waiting for him. Even though he was extremely busy, he tried to change his schedules so he could spend every evening talking to her and hearing about her day. It was the best way for him to forget about his worries and stress. As his heart began to soften, he slowly started to accept her, and even started to think of her more in a daughterly way. Even Viola felt happier. She began to feel the love she didn’t know she craved for, and cherished every ounce of it. But she didn’t know that it would come to an end.

As usual, Viola waited patiently for Adonis to come back. She glanced at the clock often, even if she couldn’t read it, and stared at the entrance of the mansion. She suddenly heard a click and gasped, knowing that Adonis had come back. However, just as she was about to embrace him, he glared at her coldly and went up to his room. Viola froze. She didn’t expect this cold reaction, and was overwhelmed with emotions. Crying, she suddenly ran out of the house. The maids were too late to notice she left, as they were all in the kitchen. Even Housekeeper Adler didn’t notice. It was only 2 hours later did someone take notice and the house erupted into panic.

“What;s happening?” Adonis asked, rushing downstairs.

“It seems Viola has run away,” Housekeeper Adler said in a panicked voice. Adonis’ eyes widened.

“W-what? How? And why didn’t you notice?!” Adonis suddenly yelled. The housekeeper could only hang his head down, ashamed. “NO! It wasn’t supposed to be like this! She could be anywhere by now! Where-“ Just then, Adonis’s phone rang. An eerie silence immediately filled the room as everyone listened to the ringtone. Adonis picked up his phone.

“What?”

“I did what I said, didn’t I? Your precious friend is with me, and if you want to see her again, I suggest you follow what I say.” Adonis remained quiet, listening to the voice.

“ Good. Now, in exchange for her, I want 10 shipments of firearms, and all of your top three resources. Meet me at the abandoned carpark near Lilac Valley at 11:30. If not, she dies.” The other line hung up before Adonis could speak. Frustrated,Adonis smashed his phone on the ground.

“What did that mean?” Housekeeper Adler asked.

“H-He called me before. Maddlestrom. This morning, at work. I-I took it lightly, but I-I didn’t know she would run out. I-I thought s-she would be safe, and that h-the was bluffing. B-but now…” Adonis’s voice trailed off as tears began to fill his eyes. Everyone watched as tears streamed endlessly down his face. After some time. He quickly wiped them off and a deadly expression was seen.

“Assemble everyone. Let them know to meet me in the armory. We’re getting back Viola, and killing that bastard tonight.” Adonis left the room and drove to the office. As soon as he arrived, everyone was already assembled.

“Listen up! Tonight you absolutely cannot screw up. Tonight we are going to be saving a child and I don’t care who does it but, kill Maddlestrom. That bastard already thinks he’s won the world when he tries threatening me with her. Now,it’s time for him to pay.” Adonis turned around, ready to leave but was stopped by one of his men.

“Sorry sir, but who are we saving?” Adonis looked at him dead in the eye.

“My daughter,”

The clock struck 11:20. Adonis watched as 30 of his men quietly entered the abandoned car park. They all confirmed their positions before Adonis made his way there. The clock struck 11:30.

“Adonis, welcome!” Maddlestrom greeted Adonis, pleased that he had arrived on time. Surrounding them were many bodyguards, all focused on the two people speaking.

“Where is Viola?” Adonis growled dangerously. Maddlestrom chuckled.

“Anxious to see your daughter?” Adonis’s fists clenched.

“Bring her out,” Maddlestrom instructed. Two bulky men dragged Viola out. Adonis’s heart wrenched in pain as he saw her gagged and tied up. A few minor wounds were on her body, but she was terrified.

“Let her go,” Adonis ordered. He tried not to plead, but the slight crack n his voice gave it away. Maddlestrom’s grin widened.

“First, the resources.”

“They’ve already been shipped to your dock.” Adonis replied. Maddlestrom immediately called someone as soon as he heard this. MeanwhileAdonis couldn’t help but sneer. This greedy bastard took the bait so easily. Maddlestrom’s face dropped in disappointment as soon as he heard that there was no shipment. Maddlesrom turned to look at Adonis, and pulled out his gun. Adonis quickly reacted, doing the same.

“Wrong move, Adonis. Wrong move.” Maddlestrom warned. Adonis only chuckled.

“I think it’s the other way around.” Adonis gave his cue and suddenly gunfire erupted. The bodyguards pulled out their guns in reflex and started shooting as well. Maddlestrom began shouting curses and orders while trying to retaliate. Adonis on the other hand swiftly took out the men holding Viola and ran over to her. Quickly freeing her, Adonis dropped his gun and embraced Viola.

“I’m sorry, I’m so sorry my dear. I’ll never leave you again.” Adonis whispered.Viola cried and clutched onto his shirt tighter. Adonis quickly glanced at Maddlestrom before signaling one of his men to protect Viola.

“Viola, dear, listen. This man will protect you, okay? He will take you outside. Make sure you listen to him. Go!” Adonis quickly handed Viola to the man and the two quickly left the scene. By now almost all of Maddlestrom’s men were dead. Maddlestrom was shooting recklessly at the others as they continued to do the same. Soon no one was left. All of Adonis’s men had retreated and Maddlestrom’s men were lying unconscious in pools of blood. While Maddlestrom’s gaze was distracted, Adonis shot him in the shoulder. Maddlestrom jerked back before looking at Adonis.

“Heh,” Maddlestrom was about to shoot Adonis but Adonis beat him to it. Two more shots. One to the stomach and one to the leg. Maddlestrom was now on his knees. Adonis took one last aim before killing Maddlestrom. A shot to the head.

Months after that incident, Adonis officially claimed Viola as his daughter. Even if their first meeting wasn’t perfect, they would always be together after that. They were father and daughter. Two different worlds that came together, in between.

Part 129- New novel

H-hey! This blog may be short but I wanna know your thoughts. So if you may or may not know, I am a writer. Well, duh, I blog. But I also write novels and stories. (I’m not very good at finishing them though.) I am a huge fan of non-fiction and fantasy stories, so you can always expect some crazy imaginative idea in them, but yesterday- actually a few nights ago- I had an idea and I was like, dang brain, you’re genius! I don’t read a lot of realistic fiction, but I was reading something that gave me this idea and I really like it.

The title is called, When Can I See You Again? and it’s a book on a girl who lives an everyday, normal life. She goes to college and has a job. She has good friends and stays out of trouble. But one day she gets into a car accident, and she loses her sight. She’s blind. Her life goes through so many changes and her world is turned upside-down by these struggles. Can she accept her new life and the way she is, or will she forever be troubled by the event?

I originally wanted the main character to have some medical disease but I wasn’t sure how I was going to write such struggles without knowing what it actually is like. I don’t want to write something wrong or false, or even something that can offend others. I think “blindness” was a safer option. (Please note, I’m not trying to say anything harmful about blind people or people who cannot see. They are also struggling, and I just thought it would be easier to write on blindness, than on a life-threatening medical disease.)

Anyway, I just wanted to know your thoughts on this idea and the ideas you have on how the plot could move forward. Here is a snippet of chapter one. ( This is what I have so far. There may be some grammar mistakes and things I need to take out, but this is what I have so far.)

When Can I See You Again?

My name is Serendipity Esma Williams. I know. My first two names are savvy and unique whilst I have a bland last name. People often question how I got my name. I’m not sure. My parents say that I was an unexpected good fortune in their lives or something. I don’t care. As long as I can find a good nickname for it, it’s not a big deal. Usually, I’d ask people to call me Esma, but now I’ve been asking them to call me Ren. It’s boy-ish but who says it can’t be a girl’s name? I’m currently 19 and am living with my two close colleagues and friends: Evangeline “Evans” Bennet and Mari “Mar” Tartal.

I’m a stickler for nicknames as I just can’t stand addressing people close to me with a formal name. Evans and Mar don’t mind. They’ve seen enough to know this is the most normal thing about me. I’ve lived with them for about 3 years, after wanting to get away from my family to become independent. Not as independent as I expected. Evans and Mar take care of me like a baby even though I’m months older than them. I always try to act more mature and start the day off by cooking a breakfast buffet for them and helping them get ready. Yet in the end, they’re the ones sending me to bed early so I wake up for college on time. I have a normal life- with normal friends and lifestyle- and thought it would stay the same. Oh how I was wrong.

The Day Before Twilight but After Midnight : After time

The war was finished and Night Star decided to stay as one, becoming the new Queen of the Gods and Goddesses. She also put an everlasting peace between the two regions of her land and the demons’, and each vowed to never be at war.

Midnight was born again, and she and Twilight ruled the night together and made Sunrise and Sunset the rulers of the day. The dragons of the netherworld were re-formed from their ashes and were put into banishment back into their own worlds.  As for Starlightieya, the Demon Generals only found some of her ashes and locked them back into the deepest netherworld trench.

The Elements went back into their original lives and remade their colonies as well as the demons. The demonstar was nurtured back into its regular self and had the magic disposed of away, that was absorbed in it. And as for Crystal, well, she found an ice element like herself named Aspen, and over the years, the two married, having two healthy daughters and created their long-destroyed ice colony. Everything went back the way it was, perfect and enjoyable, and there wasn’t a single complaint about it.

The Day Before Twilight but after Midnight Chapter 18: The Day Before Twilight but After Midnight

Midnight gulped.  She stepped into the battlefield as everyone began to side off. Crash floated to the ground and pulled out her spear.

” Prepare to lose, Midnight!” Crash said in a raspy voice. Midnight pulled out her sword and got ready. She shook as she held it in her hands.  Did this sword fell as heavy as this before? Will I win this? Her thoughts swarmed around in her head causing more and more pressure each minute.  Then, she sighed. She knew that she had been training for battles like this before. She didn’t have anything to fear.  The battle began as soon as Crash charged. The two charged and clashed battling as hard as they can.

” Twilight, come out of there! You know this is not yourself.” Midnight struggled to say.

” I’m not Twilight or your silly sister!”  Crash said annoyed.

” Please, remember! I’m  Midnight your sister, and you’re Twilight, my sister!” Midnight said hopelessly.  They both stopped. Crash just stood there as if trying to recall a lost memory. Midnight pleaded she remembered.  Then suddenly Crash gasped.

” Midnight is that you!?”

” Twilight I knew you would remember!” Midnight said happily.

” Psych!” Crash said smugly. ” You’re too gullible to even think  I remembered.” The battle continued as the two fought and fought.

” That’s it!” Crash said angrily. She stopped battling and put her spear to the ground. The earth quaked and rattled as Crash started hovering with lots of dust and light surrounding her transforming her into her true potential. Her robe changed into a dress with purple ruffles and striped pants with high black lace boots. Her hands laced with charms of power and bangles galore. In her ears, she wore earrings that looked like the dark mark and a black cloak on her back.  Crash came back down and had a gleam of power in her eyes.

” Oh yeah, well two can play at that game!” Midnight assured. She held her locket and mustered her power into it.  She rose and transformed with blue dust and light surrounding her. She changed from a battle armour into a battle dress, with pink and gold moon leggings,  and peach pink high lace shoes with gold stars. Her hands also filled with bangles and charms of power and a light blue cloak. On her head was her crown, and white bright moon earrings her on her ears.

“Oh, so now you’re going to win now that you’re dressed to look like a princess.” Crash said smugly.

” Quit your chit – chat already. Are we going to fight or not?” Midnight said with courage. Crash smiled and charged. The two fought and fought until they both lost their weapons.

” Oh yeah! See if you can bite on this!” Crash said angrily. She shot a blast of magic at Midnight. Midnight did the same back, and this time, she had courage. She fought as hard as she could and soon, started defeating Crash.

” What! How is this possible!?” Crash said furiously. She put more force into her magic and Midnight did the same. Both girls were sore from battling, each having setbacks of winning and losing.

” Do you ever get tired?” Midnight said struggling to not let her guard down.

” No, but it sounds like you do!” Crash said, also struggling.  ” You’re just a  little girl with powers, and you think you’re so special, being the chosen one and everything.” Now that did it. Midnight got furious and blew off.

” Little girl!?” She said furiously, bring more power by the second.

” What?” Crash screamed. By then Crash was almost done for. They both put their most power into it but Midnight pushed her limit.

” Nooo!” Crash screamed. Midnight finished Crash and said

” It’s over, I want Twilight back!”

” Never!” Crash yelled gasping for breath.

” Fine, I guess we’ll do this the hard way!” Midnight blasted her magic at Crash who moaned with pain.  Midnight stopped when she saw Crash rise up and get surrounded by dark blue light and dust.  Midnight watched in delight as Crash changed into Twilight. When she fell back, Midnight rushed towards Twilight and hugged her tightly.

” I missed you Twilight!” Midnight sobbed.

” I missed you too,” Twilight said sorely.  Night Star came over and hugged the two of them. Twilight looked up and gasped in delight.

” Mother! I’ve missed you!” She said. Night Star replied,

” I’ve missed both you gals too.” When they broke up, they all chatted happily unaware of their whereabouts.  Midnight gasped and fell to her knees. Twilight, shocked, looked about frantically and saw Starlightieya furious. She had thrown the spear of darkness and cut Midnight by the shoulder. Night Star upset, shot an arrow at Starlightieya who cackled and burst into a flame of ashes.

” Midnight, speak to me. Say something sis’ !” Twilight sobbed. Midnight looked at Twilight faintly and said

” Twilight.. take .. care.. of .. mom..for….”

” No!” Twilight screamed. Tears dropped and rolled down her cheeks splashing the ground. Everyone had no mood to celebrate the victory. They all sobbed and were heartbroken by this loss.

” Wait, what’s that up in the sky?”  Everyone turned around to see the Fire general squinting at the moon which had the North star shine at the top, with 6 other stars surrounding. Everyone gasped and murmured at the wonderful sight.

” Oh, I don’t believe it!” Night Star said in awe, standing up.

” What is it?” Twilight asked quietly. Night Star smiled.

” It’s the Day, Before Twilight, but After Midnight!” She said joyfully. Twilight looked confused but then gasped as Midnight rose. They all watched as Midnight flew higher and higher until she was close to the moon. The moon glinted and looked as if white dust was being absorbed into Midnight. The Northstar also shone brightly and gave a little starlight magic to Midnight, then the other stars did the same, while the moon continued to give.  Then they stopped, and Midnight flew down but hovered. Midnight showed no sign of life until the armies and Night Star put one hand at Midnight and gave some magic to her. Midnight started glowing and getting brighter and brighter until she was as bright as the moon. When everyone stopped, Midnight still hovered, as if she was waiting for something more. Night Star whispered to Twilight.

” Hold out your hands, and give some of your magic to her.” Twilight gasped and did as told. When finished, Midnight gently floated back to the ground but remained standing.  Everyone gasped in amazement as she transformed from her battle outfit into her true potential, smiling.  A pearl white robe, golden bracelets and her pendant, earrings of the moon, and her crown. The crown of her symbol, of who she really was.

She was Midnight, Goddess of the Moon and Stars.

The day before Twilight but after Midnight Chapter 17 : And so our war continues

The war raged for many days and nights. Many elements were defeated, but others were still battling raging with courage. Sunrise and Sunset lost energy and were starting to lose. Midnight called them in and replaced the generals but still, it was no good.  As the war raged, Midnight was inside the medical bay with Crystal.

” Crystal, you never told me what your power was.” Midnight said quietly while sipping a power boosting tea.  Crystal sighed.

” I, am the last warrior of my kind. The way our powerful elements are from our names, mine has no meaning to the others.” She said sadly.

” What do you mean?” Midnight questioned.

” I am an ice element.”

” Really?” Midnight said curiously. Crystal chuckled.

” Yes. My parents died in this same war over 90 millenniums ago. After they left, I came to Dawn. She took me in as her cousin and we’ve lived like friends together. I haven’t used my powers since. But I fear, I will have to use them now.”

” You don’t have to use them now, but we will need them sometime later.” Midnight said. Crystal smiled.  Just then the generals all came in, bruised, tired, and sore. Their faces were in disbelief as if they’ve seen a horror movie.

” Midnight, sorry to disturb you, but we’ve got a serious problem.”   Midnight walked out and gasped. Starlightieya had brought out the dragons and was winning the war.  She looked at Crystal who nodded.

” I think it’s time we try joining the powers.” The generals nodded. The water and fire mixed and the fire elements shot the arrows. The arrows were strong enough to injure but not destroy. Midnight got worried until she remembered. When she first saw Dawn and Dusk she put them in her locket to heal. They should be ready and might be able to help. She held her locket in her hands and watched as she summoned Dawn and Dusk from her locket. Two figures of the day and night arrived ready for battle. When they fully emerged they held hands and melted into one figure. She wore the same armour but hade a different pendant. In her hands were her two weapons. Her sword and her bow. She put them together and had a new weapon. It was a rare mystic bow. One that could shoot special arrows as tough and sharp as swords, and could blast power like the mystic water swords. Midnight gasped.

” Mom?” She asked lightheartedly.

” The figure smiled. Yes. I am Night Star mother of Midnight and Twilight.” She took her bow and took an arrow. She aimed at one of the dragons and fired. The arrow hurled through the air and hit the dragon, who instantly died, disappearing into a pile of ashes.

” Woah!” Midnight gasped.

” Pull out your sword.” Night Star said. Midnight did as told.

” Now,  hold your sword at the blade, and take it apart.” The second Midnight took her sword apart she had a sword in one hand, and a bow in the other. She then joined them together and had the same bow in her hand that her mother did. She then watched as a quiver of arrows strap on her back, and the same sword strap to the other side.

” Give it a go.”  Midnight took ahold and aimed at the next dragon. She barely missed but made the dragon flame into ashes as well.

” Nice.” Midnight said stunned.

” It’s not just you, everyone can do it.” Soon all the soldiers and elements were shooting arrows at the dragons, watching them while they flash into piles of ashes. Once all the dragons were down, the armies went back to fighting everyone else like how things were before. Just when things were going to get worse, Midnight asked if Crystal would join.

” Me?” Crystal had said.

” Yup. You.” Midnight assured.

” You’ve never used your powers before, and I believe that this is the time.” Crystal agreed and stepped out onto the battlefield. Midnight watched carefully, as a demon came forward ready to pound. Crystal held her spear in her hands and waited. The demon struck first and tried to hit Crystal hard. Crystal moved fast and jumped. She threw the spear at the demon which froze him, as soon as it hit him. Crystal grabbed her spear and struck the next. Demons and ice were flying everywhere.

” You go, Crystal!” Midnight cheered. Starlightieya gazed upon Midnight and smirked. Crash was hovering beside her, watching the war silently.

” Crash,” Starlightieya said.

” Yes?” Crash answered.

”   It’s time to take this fight to you. I want you to destroy Midnight. Destroy Midnight, we win and will be the rulers of the world!” Starlightieya cackled.  Crash smiled and flew forwards to the army. Everyone stared as she floated over to the other side.

” Midnight! Now it is your turn to battle, with me!” Crash boomed in a loud and frightning voice.

The day before Twilight but after Midnight Chapter 16: The day of the Fight.

Midnight and the three others each put on their gear. They chose their weapons, a bow, sword, spear et. cetera. Midnight sat on a small bin, she held her locket in her hands and sighed. She was wearing all her gear but her helmet. She was wearing a leather thick armour which looked like a dress, leather pants, and knee-high lace leather boots. Her helmet was a bronze-red colour with two spiky like horns and a curve V  at the top. Crystal came in her hair in a braid.

” I thought you might want this.” She said. Midnight turned around and smiled as she saw her mother’s sword. Created from the purest volcano and crafted by the rarest crater ever. It had a silver top, with designs swirling around. In the middle was a kine. a blue glowing line which stood out and shown with the other swords.  Crystal handed it to Midnight who ran her fingers on the cold metal.

” Thanks.” Midnight said quietly. She put the sword to lean in the corner and sighed.  Crystal looked at Midnight and put her hand on Midnight’s shoulder.

” Look, I know how you feel about Twilight heading to the other side, but she can’t help it.  She was taken under control.” Midnight sighed.

” I know, but, it’s that I’ve never fought in a war before, and in every battle I’ve been in, Twilight was there with me.”  Crystal nodded.

” You know, you’re not alone.” Midnight looked at her puzzled. Crystal chuckled.

” You know, I once had a friend. We were the best of the best, always competing, pushing ourselves to be the best.  Until she cheated. She went to the dark side, and I lost contact with her.”

” Really? What happened?”

” When we found her we realized that she had turned over to the real Valet.” Midnight gasped.

” Till then, I’ve never seen her again.” Crystal sighed, then looked at a terrified Midnight.

” But don’t worry, you and I both know that Twilight is an extremely precatious person. She will not let danger go to the tip of her head. ” Crystal reasured. Midnight though knew that Crystal was not assured, but was trying to make her feel better.  Midnight smiled and rose up.

” You’re right, let’s go win a war!” She said triumphantly, putting her helmet on, and strapping her sword on her back. Crystal nodded and did the same.  The two hurried to the armies, who each were strapping swords, bows, helmets, boots, and armour.  The generals of Fire, Water, Earth, and Sunrise, Sunset, and Crystal all stood up and faced Midnight. The rest of the armies hurried and did the same. Midnight looked anxious for a second, then nodded. She breathed deeply, then said,

” My Friends and elements, today will be a day, for freedom. We should give our best no matter what and must win this war!”  The group cheered and all snapped. Flashes of light and dust whipped around in the air until the armies including Sunrise and Sunset were at the battlefield.  Midnight held Crystal’s hand and they both disappeared to the battlefield. There, mirroring each other were the two armies ready for battle.  Everyone got into position and held steady. Starlightieya shouted

” Now!”  Thousands of flying snakes were thrown in the air and fell at hurling speed.

” Hold,” Midnight said, ” hold, now!”  Just as the snakes hit solid earth, thousands of millions of arrows with flaming fire were launched at the snakes. The snakes eventually died out but more and more were hurled.

” Earth, rock formation!” Midnight screamed. General Earth shouted,

” All right folks, give me your best yet!” The Elements ran ahead and pounded their fist on the ground, creating plates and plates of rock and vines to sink the snakes into the earth.

” Charge!” Starligfhtieya screamed. Her army charged forward weapons in their hands, thirsty for revenge.  Midnight looked at the army upon hers, ever so frightened. Then she realized that if she was a coward, she would lose, but if she was a warrior, she would win.

” Release your familiars!” She hollered. The Fire general nodded at Midnight, then at her troops. The fire army put away their weapons and started playing the flutes, all of which were different than the other. As the songs ended, thousands of mighty, ferocious eagles flew through the air and dropped heavy – lifting boulders onto Starlightieya’s army.

” They’ve seen enough play time, now let’s give them a real battle. Arrows of poison, now!!!” Starlightieya commanded. Every soldier stopped and shot hundreds of arrows each with a pointed poisoned tip. Eagles hurled to the ground each getting hit one by another.

” Now, mystic waters protect!” Midnight yelled. The water army nodded and pulled out their swords, they aimed at an eagle and put force into it as a gyser of mystic water hit an eagle,  creating a shield bubble.  The eagles who remained with shields dived and picked up the poisoned arrows, throwing them back at the army.  Starlightieya flew with rage.

” Charge!!”  Her army picked up the pace and started reaching the army.

” Hold, hold, now!” Midnight said, timing her army once again. As soon as they heard now, the fire army charged millions of fire arrows into the air, with the water army going forward and battling the ones who still survived. Midnight watched as soldiers struck and battled, conquering and losing, dying and winning.

” Sunrise, Sunset, hold the backup.” Midnight said. Sunrise and Sunset nodded and ran to the front of the army. They took their Staff like sticks and put their power into it. The fallen elements’ souls were transferred to the staffs, allowing them to use their power. Sunrise used mystic water, while Sunset used fire. They clashed and thrashed protecting the Fire army and the Water army.

” General! Divide!!” Midnight shouted. The two earth generals nodded, divided their group eight times, then had their best eight out. They hit the earth with their fists pounding the rock, creating small tectonic plated fences.

The day Before Twilight but After Midnight: Chapter 15: The War of the Elements, begins.

Crash raised her hand and flicked it with a twist in the wrist. She watched as a digital screen appeared in front of her. she moved parts of bodies around, as she was creating something new. When she finished, she turned around and watched amusingly as the first figure was brought fresh from the machine in the corner. The figure had raggedy old torn wings and an old tattered dress. Her hair was tangled and frizzy, and her face was dark and rough. Crash smiled and helped her off the belt. She took her spear hand shocked the figure into a trance and waited. And waited and waited and waited. Alast the waiting was over, and the figure stood up still. She turned towards Crash and grinned. She held her hands up to her side, and let a steady stream of purple and black light and dust swarm her. She changed in the light, from a tattered dress to an extended new robe, from tangled frizzy hair, to clean neat gold hair with streaks of purple and black, from a sore face to an even worse, evil face. In addition, to those were a dark crown with the mark of the demons, and a new pair of beautiful wings.

” Are you ready?” Crash said The figure nodded and put her hands in front of the machine. She watched concentrated, as the power from her hands struck and made the machine break. Crash watched, eyes wide. Then, turned her view to the belt, which was producing thousands of demons all tattered. Then being shocked into a trance, and awaking turning into the army for Starlightieya. Crash nodded and snapped her fingers. She vanished and returned instead into Starlightieya’s private lab. The lab wasn’t much of a lab, it was actually more like a 3-year-olds room with an old chemistry set squashed in on a dusty old table in the corner. Starlightieya made it, a room with bunk beds, both with pink sparkly soft covers and pillows, pink soft rugs, a pink desk with pink pencils, pens, markers, rulers, and paper, along with a fuzzy pink rolling chair. Crash always grumbled at the sight of so much PINK. She often asked Starlightieya why she chose this as the design to look more like a 3 – year – old’s room.

” The colours just help me think more and make me feel at home. ” Starlightieya would respond just twirling around in the chair. But this time she wasn’t twirling, nor in the chair. She was sitting at the Chemistry table mixing potions together into a cauldron.

” Any help you would need?” Crash said mysteriously. Starlightieya, still turned replied,

” All the better to make things quicker.” She handed Crash a pair of safety goggles and a lab coat. She put them on and stepped towards the table.  Starlightieya pushed her cauldron aside and put a new one from below.

” A hint of dragon saliva, a feather of crow. A scale of lizard, a pinch of sea salt. And the last ingredient, the demonstar whose power is yet to be hers.” Starlightieya said rhythmically.

” The last ingredient is a forbidden root from the dark forest picked many blue moons ago.” She said while showing Crash a small corked bottle with little blue dust with a with salt dust. She opened the bottle and sprinkled it all in. Then she took the Demonsatar and threw that in as well. The potion became an unusual reddish colour.  She mixed well and brought the stirrer to her lips. She sipped once, twice, thrice, then dropped the ladel. She fell to the floor and gasped, heart pounding, ringing in her ears. She gasped and moaned, battling the potion inside of her. Then, she stopped, her body went rigid then stiff.  Crash watched silently then in awe as Starlightieya rose and absorbed dust and lights of power. She hovered then stepped down.

” Is the army ready?”

” Yes, it is.”

” Good, tell Madame – X 69712 – 5 to round the dragons. And General 9250 – Q to aid the netherworld souls for their best army.”  crash nodded and snapped, disappearing in a flash of smoke.  Starlightieya smile.

” Watch out Goddesses, because the War of Elements, has just begun. “

The Day Before Twilight but After Midnight: Chapter 14, A new start, A new army, A new you

Midnight looked uncertain, she said,

” Um, you know that we need to build an army, right? “

Sunset smiled and said,

” We already have one remember?” Midnight looked puzzled.

” She’s never done a release a command before.” Crystal whispered.

” That’s all right, I’ll just explain it to her so she knows what to do,” Sunrise whispered back.

” The release and command is a very old spell, where any old soul in you are removed, to be free. The one who holds souls will be released from the locked powers, and you will have the advantage to become your true form. ”  Sunrise explained. Midnight thought of this very carefully and at last, said,

” Okay, if it’s the only way to save my sister. ” The others smiled and nodded at each other. Crystal stepped forward and put her hand in front of Midnight. She closed her eyes and concentrated carefully. She muttered a few words under her breath, as a glow of light surrounded Midnight, and small balls of fire, water, earth, sky and light erupted from her. When the glow dimmed, the balls of spirits, showed shadows then colours, then the bodies and powers of the spirits. They all gasped and smiled, chuckled and grinned, and laughed, and commented, all happy to become the Fire, Water, Earth, Sky, and Light Gods and Goddesses they once were. One soul stepped towards Midnight, and bowed, with the rest following.

” Congratulations Midnight, you have made your army. Now, take your locket, and hold it close to your heart.” Midnight did as she was told, and gasped as a light of midnight colours and stars swirled around her. She watched in awe as Her robe became renewed, and a white pearled cloak joined her robe on the sides, her hair growing longer and came at the front with two ribbons put together and hanging behind her. Her Small crown which had Dusk’s symbol changed into a larger crown with her symbol, a full moon and stars twinkling and shimmering ever so brightly representing her, Midnight, Goddess of the moon and stars. Midnight opened her eyes to the light and gasped. The others smiled and murmured at how extraordinary she looked. Midnight laughed and said,

” Wow, I mean, just, just, Midnight laughed,” wow!’

” I know, it is amazing is it not.” Crystal said grinning.

” But Midnight you must remember when there is a great power, there is also great jealousy. You must not, whatever you do, extend your power to it’s truest potential.” Sunset said darkly.

” But, I thought this is my – ” Midnight started

” Oh, Sunrise is only kidding, you have nothing to worry about.” Sunrise laughed sheepishly.

Sunset looked at her sister stubbornly. ” Why must you always look for the false truth when there is no hiding back on the real one.” She argued.  The same spirit which bowed to Midnight stepped towards the girls and rasped,

” Listen to your sister Sunrise, she speaks the truth. We have seen inside Midnight’s future, and have learned great consequences have to come during the great war. ”  The girls, forgetting the spirits were there, gasped, murmured and worried about this, each showing Midnight a great deal of ” not – letting – the – person – who – was – the – topic- in – on – this.” She rolled her eyes and whistled loudly. the other’s bickering and worrying settled down, but not completely, as she could still hear small clips of conversations being whispered. ” You do know that we have a war to battle in and won’t win if you all keep talking.” Everyone was startled, and Midnight realized that she had been yelling quite loudly. Midnight blushed and apologized nervously.

” Uh, Sunset, do you know how I can change back ?” Midnight asked. Sunset nodded at the others and replied,

” Do you really want to turn your back on something as extraordinary as this power?”

Midnight looked puzzled, and everyone chuckled. They each held their hands to their lockets and chanted the same ancient spell. Midnight gasped as each spun around in firey, watery, earthly, and sun and crystal light and dust, as they each changed into a cleaner robe, extended, with a changed locket, and with more flowing hair and a crown with their own symbols of fire, earth, water, suns, crystals and more. Midnight laughed and said,

” No, I don’t want to throw this power, not if you all are standing with me, to the very end. Everyone smiled and cheered at the stunning remarkable words from Midnight.

” Then what are we waiting for?” Crystal said warmly. Midnight smiled and replied.” Yeah, let’s go win a war!”
